About Me

Welcome to Molly Hart’s Chocolate Cake Kitchen

Molly Hart – Home Chocolate Cake Baker in Asheville

Hi there, sweet friends. I’m Molly Hart, speaking to you from my cozy kitchen in Asheville, North Carolina, where the scent of warm cocoa and vanilla seems to linger no matter the season. I’m 52 years old, but honestly, I think I started baking before I even learned to tie my shoes. There’s something about chocolate cake that has always stirred something deep in me. Not just a craving, but a sense of comfort, joy, and even a little mischief.

One of my earliest memories in the kitchen is with my grandmother, Edith. She had this heavy, old-fashioned mixer and an uncanny ability to know when a cake was ready just by the smell drifting through the house. We’d bake together on rainy Sundays. She’d be in her floral apron and I’d be perched on a stool, licking batter off a wooden spoon. That’s when I fell head over heels in love with baking, especially the dark, fudgy magic of chocolate cake.

Life took me through different paths. I worked as a preschool teacher, raised three beautiful kids, and even ran a little café for a few years. But baking always found its way back to me. My chocolate cake became a bit of a legend in our town. People asked for it at birthdays, potlucks, weddings, and even once to help one neighbor apologize to another. It did the trick, by the way.

I’ve never studied at a fancy culinary school, and I’m proud of that. I learned by doing, by messing up, and sometimes by dropping entire cakes and starting from scratch. That’s what I love about home baking. It’s imperfect, full of heart, and always growing. I believe in real butter, good cocoa, and never skimping on love. I’ve experimented with bourbon glazes, raspberry fillings, and even a little cayenne. Some were amazing. Some ended up as treats for the dog.

These days, I spend most of my time teaching baking classes out of my kitchen, writing recipes, and connecting with fellow chocolate cake lovers across the country. Whether you’re making your first cake or your fiftieth, I’m here, cheering you on with a spatula in hand and probably a little chocolate on my cheek.

So come on in, preheat the oven, and let’s make something delicious. There’s always a good reason for chocolate cake.
